A calm mind brings self confidence

Counselling offers a therapeutic relationship which has the potential to change your life.

Welcome to my website, my name is Nuria, I am an Integrative Counsellor, Trauma- Informed Therapist and EMDR Europe Accredited Practitioner. I am a member of the British Asociation of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) with over 19 years of experience. As an Integrative counsellor, I work with the Psychodynamic, Person-Centred and CBT approaches. We can use EMDR technique as a stand-alone or as part of an integrative approach.

Counselling provides clarity, facilitating positive changes and healthy solutions, it offers a great source of relief and support helping you through difficult times.

The therapeutic relationship is very important, I always focus on my client's individual needs and provide a safe, non-judgmental space.

Through all my years of experience and ongoing training, I'm specialised in working with anxiety, depression, relationships, PTSD, eating disorders, and addictive behaviour. As well as OCD, stress and worries related to negative thinking, fears and the impact of the wrong company or work environment.

How It Works

Sometimes we ignore, adapt to or minimize problems which can result in a profound unhappiness. This unhappiness can manifest itself in the form of depression, anxiety, addictions, relationship difficulties, physical ailments, insomnia and more.

My approach aims to reduce confusion and anxiety while supporting decision making. It leads to positive changes in attitude and behaviour, so you will be able to tackle life’s problems with renewed strength.

Counselling helps you with day to day worries as well as more traumatic events.

What is Integrative counselling?

Integrative counselling draws from the main theoretical models;

1. The Psychodynamic approach looks at how our past can influence our present.

2. The Humanistic Person-Centred approach places more emphasis on the here and now.

3. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) challenges negative thinking and old habits that no longer serve us.

How EMDR works

EMDR therapy requires less discussion and can accelerate progress in a matter of weeks, we can use this a stand-alone or as part of integrative therapy.

The mind can often heal itself naturally, in the same way as the body does. However, when something out of the ordinary occurs and you are traumatised by an overwhelming event or by being repeatedly subjected to distress, your natural coping mechanisms can become overloaded. In order to carry on ‘coping with life’, the brain isolates these disturbing events keeping them in a 'raw' or 'frozen' emotional form.

Sometimes the memory itself is long forgotten but anxiety, panic, anger or despair are continually triggered in the present when a situation resonates with the past experience, the ability to learn and enjoy new experiences is therefore constrained.

The eye movement stimulation used in EMDR unlocks the nervous system, creating connections between the brain memory networks, this process reduces stress, allows healing and new insights, so you can relate to the past events in a non-disturbing, healthier way.

HOW COUNSELLING WORKS

You might think it can be easy to see others clearly, but understanding ourselves is a different story. You might have lots of thoughts and feelings about what you want, but find it difficult to get your needs met.

Friends and family can be too emotionally attached to be objective. Counselling helps you to identify your strength and remove mental blocks, allowing you to become more self-aware.

HOW COUNSELLING CAN HELP

Talking to a well trained professional, safe in the knowledge that what you say will be respectfully listened to, will have a positive effect on understanding why you feel in certain way.

Counselling, also known as talking therapy, will help you to see the root of your concerns and work forward resolving your difficulties.

Psychotherapy and counselling are terms to describe the same process: to overcome personal difficulties and work towards positive changes.
