COUNSELLING & PSYCHOTHERAPY IN SOUTH LONDON

Ground yourself and calm your mind with these easy yoga poses (asanas)

Mountain pose

‘Standing up’ can be more difficult than you think!

Standing with feet together, big toes should be touching.

Try to feel the floor where your feet touch it.

Relax your shoulders

Make sure your weight is evenly balanced from the front to the back of your feet and on the right and left.

Breathe normally 🙂

Don’t worry if you’re wobbling a bit. Refocus your gaze on the floor about two metres in front of you.

Tree pose

Bring your left foot off the ground, and place it on your right ankle or thigh (not your knee)

Place your palms together.

Focus your gaze on something steady in front of you

Breathe

Do the same with the other side

Warrior

Move your feet apart

Turning the left foot a quarter turn, anticlockwise

Turn the right foot slightly anticlockwise

Bring your arms up to shoulder height, stretch them out, palms up

As you breathe out, bend your left knee, look down the line of you left arm

When you are ready to come out of the posture, straighten your left leg and move your feet around to face the front

Repeat on the right side

Stand up like a very proud warrior; strong legs strong arms!

Goddess pose

Sink into a wide squat, visualizing your strong feet and strong legs.

Feet slightly out arms out to the side in a cactus shape.

Breathe calmly into this empowering posture
