COUNSELLING & PSYCHOTHERAPY IN SOUTH LONDON

Your Inner Voice: Friend or Foe?

We all have an internal dialogue through which we make sense of the world around us and understand others.

Well, this dialogue does not always help us; in fact, sometimes it works against us.

When we are emotionally charged, our internal dialogue can feel true, but accepting it unquestioningly can increase anxiety and distress.

The way you talk to yourself matters.

Negative thoughts can affect our nervous system, leaving us feeling tense, hypervigilant, anxious, and worried.

Past painful experiences can leave a lasting emotional impact like grooves on a record. Even when circumstances are different, we can find ourselves reacting in familiar old ways, as though the same record is playing again and again.

Calmness and positive change can begin with a shift in the way you think. An Integrative approach, CBT, EMDR and a good therapeutic alliance can help to develop a healthier relationship with your thoughts, so they support rather than hinder you.
